Inspirations and Ideas
One of my favorite music videos is "Locket" by Crumb, directed by Hayoun of America. The music video explores a variety of visuals and uses niche camera techniques such as use of 360° camera to create a sense of disorientation. The mise-en-scene is simple yet effective; a makeshift house party. This showcased creativity paired with simplicity, and aimed and achieved to have a lasting effect on the viewer/audience. Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do", directed by Joseph Khan is another spectacular music video, covering a number of themes ranging from vengeance to reinvention. It has a dark tone and colour grading for most of the parts, to reflect the mood of the song. Self-explanatory visuals are shown, such as crawling out of the grave, standing atop of a pyramid of past selves, and swinging in a bird cage, all visuals personifying the song's lyrics and theme.
