Overall Challenges

Since we wanted to prioritize high resolution and appealing video quality this year, we used my Canon 750D to ensure that. It did get the job done, however, the stability of our footage got compromised in the process. I have made attempts to counter tat by using warp stabilizers like my teacher suggested, however, on some videos, applying warp stabilizer would make the footage too wobbly. Moreover, as the editor, I struggled a lot with transitions. I was not satisfied with most of the transitions, despite trying multiple software. Premiere Pro's inbuilt transitions are hardly cinematic in terms of music videos (except for the dip to white and dip to black ones), and although I did import some plugins that would otherwise have been excellent, but even these didn't seem to compliment my music video. Therefore, I think this was one shortcoming.

Extra Footage

There was some extra footage that both Zuha and I loved that did not make the final cut due to some reasons. Here is an example of a video I really wanted to add in for narrative purposes, but the footage was very shaky and unstable. I tried warp stabilizer but that only made the footage wobbly.  I even colour graded it but could not fix the stability issue.

Selecting and Dumping Footage

We ended up with over 154 video clips to select from. As the editor, I had to handpick and shortlist the best takes that would make it to the final video. I judged videos based on stability, lighting, performance and suitability. This approach helped me select videos that contributed best to the final video.  Here is the link to all the raw footage, including some digipak pictures and some BTS and bloopers.   Media A2 Raws Aiman

Rough Cut

Here is the rough cut for my music video to give an idea to our teacher about our vision for the final music video. Note that this is before the colour grading.  Moreover, I have to add some transitions and a few more clips from different angles.  Ribs Rough Cut

SHOOTING DAY 2

Image
It was the second and final day of our music video shooting. Today, we recorded on two locations; a B&B that I booked for a few hours, and a ground.  We had to shoot mostly flashbacks of the characters' friendship and then Haya being alone at the same place with the same props.  This day, the footage turned out excellent. We were just in time for golden hour during our outdoor shots, and we recorded from every angle in multiple locations. Zuha did a great job with recording scenes that included both me and Haya, and as we had planned, we diversified the camera angles and shot sizes to make the footage more captivating for the montage.   Me and Zuha planning and rehearsing a shot before recording it.  Zuha and I examining the angles to figure out which would look best. Reviewing the footage while waiting for the keys of the B&B.  I also did some camera handling, and recorded many lens-flaring shots, and other shots from the low angle. One particular ...

Experimenting with colors

I wanted pinkish tones for the flashback scenes, specially the ones outdoor. So while i was out, I recorded this clip and started experimenting with it. I liked the way this color appeared, a little foggy, and lilac-pinkish, contributing to the symbolism of the MV.
